Drinking Water Week 2008

What you might not know about tap water and how it impacts our daily life.

May 4th, 2008 (Reedsburg, WI) - Reedsburg Utility Commission reminds water consumers that protecting public health is our number one priority.  What you may not know about the health benefits and how water affects our daily lives:

▪ In North America, you can drink from virtually any public tap, while in the developing world an estimated 3 million people die every year from preventable waterborne disease.

▪ Every year Reedsburg Utility Commission provides customers with a detailed Consumer Confidence Report on the quality of their drinking water.  You can obtain a copy of the report by visiting our website: www.reedsburgutility.com or contacting our office at: 524-4381

▪ Child cavity rates have been reduced by 20-40% due to fluoridation of tap water.

▪ A reliable water supply provides critical support for our economy and the overall quality of life we all enjoy.

▪ Water is the primary ingredient in thousands of everyday products, including foods, beverages, toothpaste and perfumes.

▪ Only 3% of our tap water is used for drinking, the rest goes for outdoor watering, bathroom use, clothes washing, etc.

Only tap water delivers support for the economy and the overall quality of life we all enjoy.  To find out more about what your tap water delivers, visit: www.onlytapwaterdelivers.org or contact Jon Craker, Water Supervisor, Reedsburg Utility Commission at 608-524-4381.

Celebrate Drinking Water Week from May 4th thru the 10th by stopping by the Utility at 501 Utility Ct. and picking up your FREE water bottle (limited quantity while supplies last).  Go to www.ReedsburgUtility.com to learn more facts and fancies about your local tap water.

Celebrate Drinking Water Week by conserving our greatest resource:  WATER!
Tips on conserving water:

  • Water your lawn early in the morning or at night to avoid excess evaporation. Don't over-water your lawn.
  • Fully load the dishwasher and clothes washer before running.
  • Defrost frozen food in the refrigerator or in the microwave instead of running hot water over the food.
  • When washing dishes by hand, don't let the water run.
  • Use a broom, rather than a hose, to clean sidewalks and driveways.
  • If you have a swimming pool, use a cover. You will cut the loss of water by evaporation by 90 percent.
  • Repair dripping faucets and leaky toilets. Dripping faucets can waste up to 2,000 gallons of water each year in the average home. Leaky toilets can waste as much as 200 gallons per day.
  • Don’t leave the sink running while you brush your teeth.

By taking these simple steps, we can all feel confident that we are doing our part.
